Do the Crime & You Will Do the Time

Now that I have a much better understanding of what Copyright really is, I definitely look at it more seriously. I no longer just see it as some other law that is just there. I have done it before, we all have, but we never have stopped to think abut who it affects and how it affects them. From learning about Copyright in computer class, I have realized that it affects many people around us and we may be ruining some artists career from what we are doing for our own posession of music.
Online I have found that Youtube.com is being sued for Copyright Infrigement. The article states that Youtube allows it's members to post videos and music of other artists out there on the site without having permission from the legal owner. Youtube said that the site doesn't allow it's users to use pirated material, but they also don't catch it often either. I'm positive that half the songs on Youtube are pirated and the users who uploaded those videos onto the site did not receive permission from the artists. I understand that everyone does it but when we are downloading illegal music we need to stop and think maybe, just maybe, what would happen if we were caught?
The punishments on Youtube is that they are asking for $150,000 for all the illegal music being uploaded and created on this site. I do think it's fair because Youtube promised to make a Copyright law on their site and stick to it, but they didn't and now they have to pay the price for what they have done. I definitely think Copyright laws should be more enforced then they are now. Laws were not made to be broken, they were put in place to keep us safe.
